Fashion designer Veekee James has opened up about how false stories surrounding her marriage almost broke her down emotionally.
The designer revealed that rumors once circulated, claiming she had been involved with her husband, Femi Atere, while he was in a relationship with her friend and hair boss, Miz Nwanneka. She described the allegations as completely untrue but admitted they caused her deep distress.
Speaking on The Nancy Isime Show, Veekee shared how the false reports pushed her close to depression. She recalled locking herself in her room for days, crying and praying for strength to endure the weight of the accusations.
“It almost put me in depression,” she said. “That was the first time I truly understood what people mean when they say they’re depressed. I prayed and told God, ‘You know the truth—if these are all lies, please help us get through this without it ruining my brand.’ And the way He brought me out was like a miracle.”
Over time, faith and patience helped her heal, and she eventually learned to laugh at the stories instead of letting them consume her.
On how she deals with online criticism, Veekee explained that while her brother advised her to ignore negative comments, she prefers to read them carefully, reflect, and ensure she is living rightly.
When asked about her marriage, she revealed that she relied on God’s guidance before confirming Femi as her husband. She also expressed her hopes of raising children who will not only showcase their talents but also serve as visible role models.
Femi, who described himself as a private person, added that he remains unaffected by outside opinions. He said his focus is on supporting his wife’s public journey while maintaining a reserved presence in their family life.
