Tiwa Savage recently expressed her admiration for Ayra Starr, a rising star in the Nigerian music scene. The Afrobeats sensation praised Ayra’s talent and authenticity, revealing her own struggles with criticism early in her career.
Savage defended Ayra against critics of her fashion choices, urging her to embrace her style even more. She recalled facing similar scrutiny for her “sexy” fashion and “risky” lyrics in the past.
In an interview with Kiss FM, UK, Savage commended Ayra for her resilience amidst criticism, highlighting her global success. She described Ayra as incredibly talented and stunning.
Expressing her admiration, Savage said, “I love Ayra [Starr]. I’m obsessed with her. She’s amazing and genuine, too. It makes me emotional because when I started, I got criticised a lot for dressing too sexy and my lyrics being too risky.”
She continued, “So, seeing someone, Ayra now…If I see her wearing the short skirts as they [critics]say, I’m like, ‘Make it shorter.’ And she looks amazing, she’s extremely talented. Yeah, she’s a star.”
