Kim Kardashian Faces Her Past in Paris Robbery Trial: ‘I Thought I Was Going to Die’

Kim Kardashian stood in a Paris courtroom, calm but visibly emotional, as she recalled one of the most terrifying nights of her life. In 2016, during what was meant to be a glamorous trip for Fashion Week, she found herself at the center of a chilling robbery—held at gunpoint, tied up, and fearing for her life.

Wearing a simple black suit, Kim addressed the court and thanked the French authorities for the opportunity to finally speak her truth. “Paris has always been a place I loved,” she said. “But that night changed everything.”

She described being alone in her hotel room while her friends and family were out. The quiet evening quickly turned into a nightmare when she heard heavy footsteps on the stairs. At first, she thought it was the police—but it wasn’t.

A group of masked men burst in. One of them gestured and repeatedly said “ring,” pointing toward her hand. It took a moment to realize he meant her diamond ring—a gift from her then-husband, Kanye West, worth millions.

As they demanded more valuables, Kim was tied up with zip ties and had a gun pointed at her. Her voice trembled as she recounted the moment she thought her life was over. “I said a prayer for my family,” she told the court. “I truly believed I was going to die.”

There was a moment she feared she would be assaulted, but instead, the man taped her legs and left her in silence. Though not physically harmed, the fear was overwhelming. “It was absolutely terrifying,” she said. “I was dragged, but not beaten. It was the gun, the shouting… everything happened so fast.”

Those accused of carrying out the robbery are mostly older men—some in their 60s and 70s—with long criminal histories. They go by names like “Old Omar” and “Blue Eyes,” echoing characters from vintage crime films. One suspect, who has since written a book about the heist, reportedly stumbled during his escape when his bag got stuck in a bicycle wheel.

One of the men, Aomar Ait Khedache—nicknamed “Old Omar”—had a letter read aloud in court. In it, he apologized and claimed he was moved by Kim’s testimony. She responded quietly, “I appreciate the letter. I do believe in second chances.” But she made it clear the emotional scars remain. “I forgive you,” she said, “but that doesn’t erase what I went through. It changed everything.”

Kim shared that her sense of safety hasn’t been the same since. She now relies on a full-time security team, and even her Los Angeles home was targeted in another burglary just a month after the Paris incident. “People saw what happened and took advantage,” she said.

What was once a private trauma has now become a very public moment of reckoning. And while the trial is still ongoing, Kim’s testimony offered a raw and honest glimpse into the deep personal toll of that night—one that went far beyond the value of the stolen jewelry.
