As Ghana gears up for the forthcoming December 2024 general elections, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has delivered a heartfelt plea to citizens, urging them to demonstrate profound patriotism, maturity, and compassion throughout the electoral journey.
Speaking at an event in Accra organized by the Trades Union Congress, themed “The role of workers and social partners in securing peaceful elections for national development,” the IGP stressed the essential role of every stakeholder in ensuring a smooth and harmonious electoral process.
“The security agencies stand poised for the elections, ready to preserve peace, secure the nation, and uphold law and order,” Dr. Dampare affirmed. “However, it is incumbent upon us as citizens to play our part, and likewise, all other stakeholders must fulfill their responsibilities.”
Underlining the importance of maturity, patriotism, and compassion, Dr. Dampare emphasized that these virtues are crucial for creating a conducive environment for democratic engagement. “By adhering to these principles,” he underscored, “we will realize that our role in this entire electoral process is a simple yet fulfilling civic duty.”
Furthermore, the Inspector-General disclosed the operational readiness of the National Election Command Center, which has been active at the Police headquarters for the past year. This Center collaborates closely with the national election security task force to address election-related concerns and ensure the seamless conduct of elections nationwide.
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare’s impassioned plea comes amid heightened anticipation and preparations for the impending electoral event. Through his call for patriotism, maturity, and compassion, the IGP aims to foster a sense of civic responsibility and solidarity among Ghanaians as they embark on this pivotal democratic endeavor.
Citizens are urged to uphold these values and actively contribute to a peaceful and transparent electoral process, thereby reaffirming Ghana’s unwavering commitment to democracy and national progress.
