Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reaffirmed his plan to implement a flat-rate tax system in Ghana, inspired by Estonia’s model. He emphasized that this approach would streamline tax administration, offering greater transparency for taxpayers and simplifying the process of filing and paying taxes.
Speaking at the launch of the NPP’s manifesto in Takoradi, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that this flat-rate system would not only ease the burden on businesses but also stimulate economic growth. He also pledged to reduce government spending by 3% of GDP if elected in the 2024 general elections. This reduction, estimated at around GH₵30 billion, would be redirected towards private sector projects to enhance public infrastructure and services.
Dr. Bawumia also mentioned the use of the country’s gold purchase program as a tool to stabilize the currency, giving businesses more predictability in planning and ensuring stable input prices.
In addition to the flat tax system, he proposed a Tax Amnesty Programme to help industries expand, hire more workers, and boost economic activity.
Meanwhile, Second Lady Samira Bawumia has called on Ghanaians to strongly support her husband in the upcoming December 2024 elections. Speaking to NPP supporters in Effiakuma Zongo, Takoradi, she expressed her belief that Dr. Bawumia’s presidency would bring about significant positive changes for the country.
