A student expressed her joy at being airlifted from Sudan.

“The Chadian embassy assisted us, and we are now on a plane.” “I am overjoyed to be returning to my beloved Chad,” Ikhbar says.

She claims dozens of other Chadians are on board, and while she is leaving her university studies in Khartoum behind, she is grateful to have found safety.

“It feels very different, thank God.”

According to French-language broadcaster RFI, more than 220 people have been repatriated to Chad, and the Chadian government is urging those who remain in Sudan to report to its consulate and register for a return flight.

Chad borders the Darfur region of western Sudan, which has experienced some of the worst violence since the conflict began.

According to a UN official, up to 250,000 Sudanese may end up seeking refuge in Chad, despite the country’s own security issues and its already strained humanitarian response to Sudan’s crisis.
