Kenyan police have verified that prominent Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif was shot on Sunday night in Kajiado county, which is close to Nairobi’s capital.

The circumstances surrounding Mr. Sharif’s death are being looked at, according to police spokesperson Bruno Shioso.

In a case of mistaken identity, according to local media, he was shot at a roadblock on the Nairobi-Magadi highway.

In a tweet sent on Monday, Mr. Sharif’s wife Javeria Siddique lamented the loss of “[a]friend, husband, and my favorite journalist.”

The repeated run-ins Mr. Sharif had with the law resulted from his reporting on alleged corruption and his criticism of Pakistani politicians.

According to reports, Mr. Sharif was working on an investigative story that would have included journalists from different parts of the globe and looked into allegations of state-sponsored criminal cartels that involved senior Pakistani officials.

In connection with a disputed interview with a member of the opposition, Pakistani authorities had also brought sedition charges against Mr. Sharif.

Arif Alvi, the president of Pakistan “The loss of Arshad Sharif to Pakistan and journalism is immense. I pray for his eternal rest and for his family, including his followers, to have the fortitude to endure this loss “.
