Labour Party Urges Overhaul of Nigeria’s Cabinet on Independence Day
As Nigeria celebrated its 64th Independence Day, the Labour Party, led by Julius Abure, issued a strong call to President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the appointments of underperforming cabinet members and heads of government agencies. During a press briefing in Abeokuta, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, emphasized the urgent need for a thorough overhaul of the current administration.
Arabambi highlighted the failures of key figures, including Mele Kolo Kyari, Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, pointing out their inability to effectively manage the country’s economic sectors for the benefit of the citizens. He stated that such shortcomings are detrimental to Nigeria’s progress and impede economic growth and development.
The Labour Party criticized past administrations for lacking political will, good governance, equity, and justice—factors they believe have stunted Nigeria’s growth for over six decades. Arabambi argued that replacing ineffective leaders could open the door for more competent individuals capable of driving meaningful change and advancing the nation’s development agenda.
He remarked, “If I were to rate President Bola Tinubu’s administration on a scale of 10, I would give it a mere 2.5, considering the dismal state of the economy and other issues. Nigeria is not making progress, and this is why, as we commemorate our 64th Independence anniversary, the President must reassess his cabinet.”
Arabambi urged the president to appoint individuals based on merit and competency rather than party affiliation. “Nigerians deserve so much more than what we are currently experiencing under this government. It’s time to find the right people for the right roles,” he concluded, emphasizing the need for positive change in leadership.
