Isha Sesay, the CEO of OkayAfrica and a British-Sierra Leonean journalist, has announced the birth of her baby, Naimah Yasmine Kadi Sesay, on her official Instagram page.

The former CNN correspondent announced the birth of her child on February 17th, at 9:24 p.m. in New York City.

“My pathway to motherhood has been a long and at times difficult journey,” Isha said in her emotional announcement. But, through it all, I’ve walked with faith and prayer, as well as the loving support of so many of you – both near and far. And now that I am a mother, my heart feels like a completely foreign organ in my body…it is so full…completely transformed by this new wondrous being.

“My daughter, Naimah Yasmine Kadi Sesay, was born on February 17th, at 9:24 p.m. in New York City. Her arrival was preceded by the sudden onset of preeclampsia, which caused skyrocketing blood pressure as well as hemorrhaging, toxemia, and fluid overload in the hours that followed. All I could think about in my darkest moments was my daughter, and she gave me the strength I needed. There are no words to express how grateful I am for the 24-hour medical care provided by my outstanding OB/GYN Dr. Clarel Antoine and supported by so many others at @nyulangone, as well as the mind-body-spirit care provided by my doula @mslemonhoney, who was by my side in the delivery room and throughout everything that followed.

‘Thank you’ does not seem adequate for all of those who literally saved my life!

“Those difficult days are behind us and Naimah and I are thankfully back home. My child has erased all traces of who I once was and what was important to me in the blink of an eye. In accordance with the meaning of her first name, ‘Naimah,’ she is my peace. She is a blessing to me.

Thank you to everyone who has been following my pregnancy journey, checking in on us, praying for us, and sending constant well wishes. We adore you!

And I can’t wait to share the ups and downs of motherhood with you in the coming days.

Isha Sesay, 47, announced her pregnancy in October 2022, sharing her experience as a 46-year-old single woman looking for a baby.
