In a captivating new development, Issa Rae takes on the role of a superhero in the Marvel project “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” Portraying Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman, Rae’s character adds a unique twist as she tackles the challenges of being a pregnant superhero in this animated film exploring alternate universes. Known for her ability to bring distinctive characters to life, Rae expresses her pride in portraying the cool and badass Spider-Woman, stating, “It is many dreams come true.”

Fans eagerly anticipate the sequel to the acclaimed “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” from 2018, as Jessica Drew fearlessly swings into action alongside other beloved characters. Rae joyfully joins the star-studded cast, including Shameik Moore as Miles Morales/Spider-Man and Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Morales, Miles’ father. Although voicing an animated character posed its own challenges, Rae found reward in reading scenes with Hailee Steinfeld, who voices Gwen Stacy, another Spider-Woman character.

While accustomed to acting in physical spaces, Rae had to rely on her imagination and the script to visualize her character’s surroundings. Additionally, she faced the task of conveying emotions solely through her voice, a departure from her real-life tendency to hide her feelings. Despite the challenges, Rae found the experience of using her voice to express her character’s thoughts and emotions both fulfilling and enjoyable.

Anticipation surrounds the film’s potential for winning the Best Animated Film Academy Award, mirroring the success of its predecessor. Could “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” achieve a similar feat as “The Godfather II,” surpassing the original in acclaim and recognition? Rae remains uncertain, humorously revealing her need to watch the iconic “Godfather” films.

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is currently screening in theaters, captivating audiences with its thrilling storyline and exceptional animation.
