Pastor William Kumuyi, the founder and General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, recently addressed the growing trend of Nigerians, particularly the youth, leaving the country in search of better opportunities abroad. During a Sunday sermon in Port Harcourt, Kumuyi expressed his concern over this increasing migration, urging those considering it to rethink their decision.
He emphasized that many who leave the country often face challenges they didn’t anticipate and later regret their choice. Kumuyi’s message, which touched on the popular Nigerian slang “JAPA” (a term used to describe quickly fleeing a situation), highlighted the importance of finding success and prosperity within Nigeria, rather than seeking it elsewhere.
According to the pastor, God’s blessings are not confined to a particular location. “Whatever nation you are born in, the goodness of the Lord will reach you there,” he assured his listeners. Kumuyi shared stories of professionals like doctors, engineers, and lawyers who moved abroad expecting better opportunities, only to face unexpected hardships such as high living costs and difficulties supporting their families. Many, he noted, realized life was more manageable in Nigeria and wished to return.
Kumuyi urged Nigerians not to overlook the potential within their own country, stating, “Goodness will come to you here. You don’t have to run away; your prosperity and progress will come right here in Nigeria.”
His sermon serves as a reminder to have faith and resilience, encouraging citizens to trust in God’s plan for their future, regardless of the challenges they face.
