Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has stated that Japan is willing to assist Mozambique in its fight against terrorism.

The Japanese Prime Minister is in Mozambique as part of a six-day tour that also included stops in Ghana, Kenya, and Egypt.

He stated that Japan is interested in funding the fight against terrorism in northern Cabo Delgado province, which would allow Japanese companies involved in the Rovuma basin consortiums to operate in a safe environment.

For years, the northern province has been besieged by an Islamic militant insurgency.

Mr. Kishida and Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi both stressed the importance of Japanese private investment in “structural areas” of the economy in order to achieve concrete results in bilateral cooperation.

Mr. Nyusi urged Japanese investors to look into opportunities in transportation, agriculture, industry, and tourism.
