JD Sports Fashion Bids Farewell to Key Executive Sherilyn Paterson

JD Sports Fashion has announced the departure of Sherilyn Paterson, its Chief Operating Officer, after a 12-year tenure at the retail giant. Paterson, who joined the company in 2012, has held various significant roles, culminating in her appointment as COO in early 2023.

Paterson’s journey with JD Sports began as Head of Merchandise for Footwear. Two years later, she advanced to Merchandising Director, and in 2023, she took on the dual roles of COO and Group Operations Director until August. Her extensive experience in the fashion retail industry includes senior positions at top UK brands such as Kurt Geiger, Topshop, Burton, Miss Selfridge, Matalan, and Debenhams. She also held roles at Littlewoods Shop Direct Group (now Very Group), Etam Group, and Mothercare.

Though JD Sports has not officially announced her departure, sources indicate she stepped down for personal reasons. Despite this, she is still listed as COO on her LinkedIn profile.

During Paterson’s tenure, JD Sports experienced significant success, becoming one of the most prominent UK-based retailers. However, recent challenges have impacted its progress. Last week, the company saw its share price dip due to weaker sales at Nike, sparking investor concerns about JD Sports’ performance.

In May, JD Sports reported a slight decline in operating profit due to rising costs and investments, though revenue increased by just under 3%, surpassing £10 billion in a tough market. The company, known for its strategic expansions and acquisitions, anticipates profit before tax and adjusting items to reach up to £1 billion for the current year.

Paterson’s departure marks the end of an era for JD Sports as it continues to navigate the evolving retail
