Jennifer Lopez was taken aback by the response to her choice to change her last name after her marriage to well-known actor Ben Affleck.
Nearly 20 years after their initial engagement, the pair wed earlier this year, and their new chapter began in July when they got married in Las Vegas.
According to JLo, “People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez.”
“But because we’re married, my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck. We are a married couple. I’m pleased with that. That is not, in my opinion, a problem.
“You get what I mean when I say it seems like a power move?
“I feel powerful as a woman and as a person because I have a strong sense of control over my life and my future. It’s okay that people have different opinions about it; I can accept that. However, if you’re curious about how I feel about it, I simply think it’s romantic. To me, it still conjures up images of history and romanticism; perhaps I’m just that kind of girl.”
A special person
The well-known singer continued by saying that Affleck is a very precious person to her and that their bond has grown since they were able to get back in touch.
Lopez continued, “I never tried to hide the fact that I always felt like there was a real love there, a sincere love there.
“People in my life are aware of how special he was in my life. Those feelings for me were still extremely present when we reconnected.
“All we’ve ever wanted was to kind of reach a place of calm in our life where we truly felt the kind of love that you feel when you’re very young and wonder if you can have that again,” the couple said. Is it a thing? Is it true?
“I believe everyone has those questions. God, is this really all there is to life? You go through all these relationships, your search, you connect, and you detach from people. To get there, though, is a mystery to everyone.
