This week, pop superstar Justin Bieber spoke out against H&M, claiming that the retail giant began selling a clothing line bearing his name and image without his permission.
“The H&M merch they made of me is trash,” Bieber wrote to his fans on Monday in an Instagram story.
“All without my permission and approval,” the singer explained in an additional Instagram story. “If I were you, I wouldn’t buy it.”
H&M said that it followed “proper approval procedures” when creating the licensed clothing. “H&M followed proper approval procedures, as with all other licensed products and partnerships,” the retailer said.
Bieber did not specify which clothing items he was referring to, but according to the singer’s fan Instagram account, @jbiebertraacker, the merchandise included a white sweatshirt with his face, a tote bag with images of him, and a phone accessory and a pink sweatshirt that reads, “I miss you more than life” — a lyric from Bieber’s song “Ghost.”
The 28-year-old pop singer himself commented on the Instagram post, saying, “When everyone finds out I didn’t approve any of this merch smh.”
H&M’s website does not appear to have the items for sale. A search for “Justin Bieber” yields no other clothing or accessories associated with him.
Drew House, Bieber’s clothing line, was founded in 2018 by co-founder Ryan Good. The streetwear brand, which caters to Generation Z, is known for its smiley face logo as well as bright colors and patterns.
