Nollywood star Kate Henshaw has called out the poor planning behind the closure of Independence Bridge on Victoria Island, Lagos. The unexpected shutdown caused massive traffic jams, leaving road users stuck for hours on April 2, 2025.
After public outrage, the Minister of Works ordered the bridge reopened to ease the congestion. However, Kate didn’t hold back her frustration. Taking to social media, she questioned why such work wasn’t scheduled at night to reduce disruption, pointing out that in more organized countries, road maintenance happens when the city is asleep.
She said, “In truly civilized nations, such work is done under the gentle cover of night when the city sleeps — when disruption is minimal. It’s a matter of respect, empathy, and COMMON SENSE. Now you want to open an already excavated bridge for damage control! Mscheew.”
Her statement sparked a flurry of reactions, with many Nigerians agreeing and sharing their own frustrations:
-
“Exactly what I was saying yesterday! This work should have been done at night to avoid all that stress. We’ve been through this before with the Third Mainland Bridge.”
-
“I remember being shocked in Germany when I saw road repairs at 2 a.m. They said it’s done at night to reduce disruptions and avoid lawsuits from citizens. Makes sense.”
-
“While I get the point, how do we ensure quality work at night? Our leaders just need to step up and plan better.”
-
“Had a whole debate in traffic last night about how poorly things are managed here — from road repairs to currency redesign and late-night election announcements. They really don’t rate us at all.”
Kate’s bold stance has definitely sparked conversations, as many continue to voice their frustrations over poor planning and lack of consideration for the public.
