Kate Middleton’s recent abdominal surgery, labeled as “planned” by Kensington Palace, caught even those closest to the Princess of Wales by surprise.

According to a report from People on Wednesday, there were no prior signs of Middleton, aged 42, facing any health issues before her hospitalization on January 16. Sources revealed that the news came as unexpected to both family friends and individuals closely associated with the royal family.

The last public appearance of the princess was on December 25, accompanying her husband, Prince William, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, to a Christmas church service. Despite this, Middleton appeared to be in good spirits as recently as January 9 when she celebrated her birthday privately with her family at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, England.

Just a week later, the palace disclosed that Middleton had undergone a “successful” operation at the London Clinic, which we understands was significant but unrelated to cancer. She is expected to remain hospitalized for 10 to 14 days before continuing her recovery at home. Kensington Palace mentioned that Middleton is not likely to resume public duties until after Easter, respecting her privacy regarding further details. A source close to the royal household assured that she is receiving excellent care and support, especially from her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, who will be by her side during her recovery in Windsor.

Prince William, aged 41, is reported to be postponing his official engagements to prioritize caring for his wife and children, according to a royal insider’s statement.

Prince Charles, aged 41, was photographed visiting Kate at the hospital on January 18. However, Middleton isn’t the only senior member of the royal family facing health challenges. Shortly after news of her hospitalization broke, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III will undergo a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate, leading to a temporary delay in his public appearances.
