Kimora Lee Simmons, the 48-year-old entrepreneur, has been making the most of family moments before the end of summer. She recently shared a collection of Instagram photos that captured her journey to Japan alongside her five children. The snapshots showcased the family indulging in the diverse cuisines and attractions of the country.

In her Instagram carousel, captioned with the Japanese greeting “Ohayo gozaimasu 🇯🇵👘🎎🪭🍣🍱,” Simmons presented glimpses of her multicultural background. With a mother of Korean and Japanese descent and an African American father, she kicked off the series with an image of herself standing by a food shop decorated with a prominent red crab sculpture. Dressed in dark denim jeans and a gray tank top, she posed in front of the shop’s menu.

Another snapshot featured Simmons and her 14-year-old son Kenzo, whose father is ex Djimon Hounsou. Smiling for the camera, Kenzo had his arm draped over his mother’s shoulder as they stood in front of a vibrant, multi-colored building bordered by box hedges. The vacation was also shared with her 8-year-old son Wolfe, from her previous relationship with Tim Leissner, and Gary, whom she adopted at the age of 10. A heartwarming picture of the trio spending quality time in a pet store was included.

Simmons’ family vacation also included her daughters Aoki, 20, and Ming, 23, from her former marriage with Russell Simmons. The group photo featured all of them together. This trip came after Aoki’s graduation from Harvard University and Ming’s graduation from New York University.

As a single mother, Simmons has always prioritized her children. In an interview with PEOPLE in May, she expressed her dedication: “I’m a single mom of five kids and I know how hard it can be and I don’t want to start crying, but it’s Mother’s Day, I know how that feels like to raise your kids and to get up every day and only care about them.” She emphasized the challenges of parenthood, irrespective of status, highlighting the role of being a family member or caregiver.

Despite a public family disagreement with the father of Ming and Aoki in June, Simmons shared her parenting perspective during July’s Essence Fest. She continued to instill resilience in her daughters, stating, “The world loves you. If somebody forms an opinion of you based on two seconds of something they don’t know, then you’re not missing them.”
