Bayero, a revered traditional ruler and Muslim leader, passed away on June 6, 2014. Reflecting on his demise, Kwankwaso praised him as a guardian to all the people of Kano.

Nine years after Bayero’s passing, Kwankwaso, who also served as the Governor of Kano State, took to Twitter to express his admiration for the late emir. He acknowledged Bayero’s unwavering commitment to the people of Kano and the lasting legacy he left behind.

Bayero, who ascended the throne after a successful career in banking, law enforcement, politics, diplomacy, and business, was known for his vocal criticism of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists. His dedication to promoting peace and his ability to remain apolitical was highly regarded during his 50-year reign.

The late emir’s driver and two guards tragically lost their lives in an attempted assassination by suspected Boko Haram fighters in January 2013.

While the Sultan of Sokoto holds the position of Nigeria’s most senior Muslim leader, many considered the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, as the country’s most respected and influential emir.
