Lewis Capaldi is taking a much-needed break.
On Monday, the “Wish You the Best” singer announced a three-week hiatus from all performances and work commitments in order to focus on his mental and physical health.
“Hi everyone, hope you’re doing well,” he started his message. “This is a very difficult message, and it pains me greatly to have to type it, but I’m going to have to cancel all commitments from now until I play Glastonbury on June 24.”
“It’s been such an incredible time leading up to this new album, and seeing all of the support from everyone has been beyond anything I could have ever imagined,” he continued. Having said that, the last few months have been mentally and physically exhausting. I haven’t been home properly since Christmas, and I’m still trying to get my bearings.”
Capaldi, 26, stated that he needs the time to return home to the United Kingdom after taking a break from touring and promoting his latest album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent.
“I need to rest and recover so that I can be at my best and ready for Glastonbury and all of the other incredible shows coming up so that I can keep doing what I love for a long time.” I need to use these three weeks to pretend to be Lewis from Glasgow for a while, spend time with my family and friends, and do normal life activities that are essential to feeling better. “I hope everyone gets it,” he wrote.
The “Someone You Loved” singer expressed gratitude to his fans and apologized for having to cancel the upcoming shows.
“I understand that many of you will have spent money on travel or hotels, which I appreciate more than ever given how difficult things have been economically recently, so I’m deeply sorry for the impact this will have.” “It’s beyond comprehension that you’re willing to come out and spend your time, money, and love on these shows, and I feel incredibly lucky,” he said.
“I’m getting all the help and support I need from incredible people around me who I’m so grateful for,” Capaldi wrote at the end of his note. I take nothing for granted and can’t wait to get back to it. “With all my heart.”
In the coming weeks, the singer was scheduled to perform in Glasgow, London, Dublin, and Norway. Following his return to the stage, Capaldi will perform on June 28 in Zurich, Switzerland.
Capaldi has been candid about his anxiety and depression struggles, as well as how they affect and trigger his Tourette syndrome. Last month, the “Forget Me” singer revealed that his mental health is directly related to his job and that if things get too bad, he will leave music.
“I think on this album in particular, I talk a little bit more about my mental health, which has taken a beating over the last little while,” Capaldi said of his sophomore album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, on Apple Music. “My mental health issues are a direct symptom of my job.
Capaldi noted that touring is tough for him. “I was in a bad way where I was just having panic attacks every single day onstage and I was just shy,” he shared. “I still haven’t quite got there, but it’s interesting that this thing that you love to do and you’ve always wanted to do becomes something that causes you such distress, but such is the modern world.”
