Renowned Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele is embarking on two thrilling projects in partnership with the Lagos State Government: a brand-new movie and an intriguing reality TV show! The collaboration, initiated during a meeting on May 9, 2024, between Akindele and Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Toke Benson Awoyinka, promises to bring fresh talent to the forefront of Nigeria’s entertainment scene.

During the meeting, Akindele expressed her desire for Lagos government support in facilitating programs aimed at discovering and nurturing budding talent within the state’s vibrant creative industry. This strategic partnership hints at both entertaining content for audiences and a platform for identifying and empowering future stars in Nigerian entertainment.

“I am very aware of the contribution of the state Government to the creative sector. Since our aim and objective of developing the industry are the same I thought it would be great to collaborate with the Lagos State Government on two projects aimed at discovering and developing new talents who will be mentored and assisted to climb the ladder of success and take over as shining stars of the industry in future,” Akindele shared.

Commissioner Awoyinka warmly welcomed the collaboration, underscoring Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to bolster the film industry. She elaborated on the Ministry’s initiatives, including filmmaking courses offered in partnership with institutions like Ebonylife Academy, Africa Movie Academy, and Gidi Creative Centre. Additionally, the government actively supports film festivals and prestigious events such as the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). Awoyinka also revealed the government’s commitment, having already awarded ₦400 million in grants to filmmakers, with Governor Sanwo-Olu pledging to double that amount.

Clearly impressed by the discussions, Funke Akindele expressed her appreciation on social media, signaling potential collaborations between the Lagos State government and her production company. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting ventures!
