Titania Davenport, the mother of Takeoff, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Houston’s 810 Billiards & Bowling, the venue where the rapper was fatally shot in 2022. The lawsuit alleges that the establishment, which hosted a party organized by J. Prince, the head of Rap-A-Lot, lacked adequate security measures that could have potentially saved Takeoff’s life.
According to Rolling Stone, the lawsuit claims that the defendants failed to implement screening mechanisms, after-hour controls, and security measures, while also neglecting to enforce rules and industry standards to prevent crimes against party attendees. Pre-party social media posts indicated the need for basic security measures and advanced planning, which the defendants allegedly neglected.
The lawsuit further highlights previous incidents that occurred at 810 Billiards & Bowling, suggesting that the defendants were aware or should have been aware of the high number of violent crimes in the area. It argues that the defendants negligently failed to protect invitees like Takeoff from the risks of violent crime, particularly considering the nature of the party and the presence of celebrities who could potentially be targeted.
The lawsuit outlines a total of 18 instances of alleged negligence, including inadequate provision of security personnel, failure to properly inspect and maintain the premises, failure to warn invitees about known hazards, and failure to hire, train, and supervise employees adequately. Notably, the lawsuit does not name J. Prince or Patrick Clark, who is charged with Takeoff’s murder, outside of the venue as defendants.
The lawsuit seeks accountability for the tragic incident and emphasizes the importance of implementing appropriate security measures to ensure the safety of patrons at entertainment venues.
