Reality TV star Uriel Oputa has spoken out against Nigerians who are using the passing of Ruth Otabor—sister to Big Brother Naija winner Phyna—as material for clout and online content.

In a post on Instagram, Uriel condemned the trend, describing it as insensitive and a sign of a lack of originality among many content creators. According to her, instead of innovating, too many people recycle the same type of content, and in this case, some have crossed the line by turning another family’s grief into entertainment.

She stressed that Phyna deserves the space to grieve without being dragged into the spotlight for the wrong reasons, noting that she has legal representation and does not require public interference.

Uriel did not mince words in her warning: anyone attempting to exploit Phyna’s tragedy for attention would be called out publicly. “Not everything is a joke until it happens to you,” she said, urging people to show respect and empathy.

She described the act of monetizing someone’s pain as disgraceful, adding that such behavior reduces human suffering to a circus. For her, this moment should be about compassion, not clout-chasing.
