Liberia’s ex-Chief Justice, Gloria Musu Scott, and three family members have received life sentences for murder. They were arrested and charged last June in connection with the death of Ms. Scott’s niece, Charlotte Musu, who was killed at Ms. Scott’s residence in Brewerville, northwest Liberia, in February of the same year.
Despite Ms. Scott’s claim of intruders attacking her home and causing her niece’s death, a Monrovia court found her and three family members guilty after a five-month trial. The charges included conspiracy and raising a false alarm to law enforcement officers.
Throughout the trial, the accused asserted their innocence and pleaded not guilty. However, on Tuesday, the court deemed the prosecution’s evidence compelling, resulting in life imprisonment for the four women.
It’s worth noting that Liberia abolished the death penalty in July last year.
