Nigerian dancer and former Big Brother Naija star, Roseline Omokhoa Afije, popularly known as Liquorose, has opened up about nearly missing her shot at the reality show in 2020.

In a recent chat with VJ Adams, she shared that she was ready and backstage for the launch but was unexpectedly prevented from entering. The setback left her feeling discouraged and almost made her give up on her dream.

Liquorose and fellow hopeful Jaypaul were both unable to participate that year after testing positive for COVID-19.

Despite the disappointment, she returned the following year to try her luck again. Admitting that she almost skipped the 2021 audition because of the previous year’s experience, Liquorose credited a friend for convincing her to go through with it.

Her perseverance paid off. After completing the audition process, she later discovered she had been selected to join Big Brother Naija Season 5 in 2021. Her journey culminated in a remarkable performance, finishing as the runner-up and narrowly missing the grand prize to Whitemoney.

Reflecting on the experience, she said, “In 2020, I was backstage at the BBNaija opening show. I was dressed up and makeup done, but I wasn’t called. That really hurt me. That experience stayed with me, and the next year, I didn’t even want to audition. But my friend encouraged me to try. I went through the process, forgot about it, and one day checked my spam folder—I had been selected. It was crazy.”
