Renowned British actor Bernard Hill, famed for his memorable roles in “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, passed away on Sunday at the age of 79, as announced by his agent.
Hill portrayed Captain Edward Smith in the iconic 1997 film “Titanic” and gained global acclaim for his portrayal of Theoden, King of Rohan, in two installments of “The Lord of the Rings” series, directed by Peter Jackson.
His agent, Lou Coulson, confirmed his passing in the early hours of Sunday to British media.
Hill’s career highlights include his role in the BBC’s acclaimed 1982 drama “Boys from the Blackstuff,” which garnered numerous awards and remains revered as a standout production of its time.
In an upcoming project, Hill is slated to appear in the second season of the contemporary BBC drama “The Responder,” alongside Martin Freeman, scheduled to premiere later on Sunday in the UK.
