John Mahama Condemns Pro-Government Media for Biased Reporting

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sharply criticized pro-government media outlets Asaase Radio and the Daily Guide for what he describes as “disgraceful and shadowy journalism.”

Mahama’s rebuke comes in response to reports he claims are misleading and biased, accusing these media houses of unethical practices. Specifically, he condemned them for fabricating stories that allege he sought assistance from the Russian government for the 2024 election.

Highlighting the need for responsible journalism, Mahama called out these outlets for their lack of integrity and professionalism. He asserted that the administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has relied on misinformation and disinformation over the past eight years to mask corruption, incompetence, and the resultant hardships faced by many Ghanaians.

In a statement signed by his special aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Mahama mentioned being aware of false stories written by NPP propagandists, presented as news in various pro-government outlets, including Asaase Radio and the Daily Guide. He described Asaase Radio and its affiliates as tools for government propaganda and called for ethical responsibility in journalism.

Mahama specifically criticized Asaase Radio for joining the Daily Guide and the Ministry of Information’s “fake news factory” by spreading false claims about his supposed efforts to solicit financial and technical support from Russia for the 2024 elections.

He clarified that his visit to Moscow was public knowledge and was intended to launch the Russian translation of his memoir, “My First Coup D’etat and Other Stories from the Lost Decades of Africa,” at the Russian Academy of Sciences. This event was well-documented by reputable news outlets and on his social media platforms.
