John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration for its ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ policy. According to the former President, the Akufo-Addo administration’s approach has transformed the nation into a dependent one. He voiced his views at the 9th Ghana CEO Network Business Cocktail, asserting that the Ghana Beyond Aid policy has not yielded positive results.
Mahama proposed an alternative solution, advocating for the implementation of a “24-hour economy,” which he believes is a well-considered initiative.
He elaborated, stating, “The 24-hour economy initiative was carefully outlined on page 105 of the NDC’s 2020 People’s Manifesto. Its origins trace back to the 40-year National Development Plan crafted by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) during my presidency.”
The NDC Flagbearer stressed that the current economic challenges in Ghana are a result of government decisions.
He emphasized, “The economic challenges we are facing are undoubtedly the result of decisions made by this government. However, for the sake of Ghanaians and the future of our nation, we cannot allow the current situation to persist.”
Mahama also voiced concerns about the 2024 budget, stating that it introduces burdensome taxes that adversely affect businesses.
