A young Ghanaian man in his twenties has shared a harrowing experience of surviving an acid attack, allegedly orchestrated by his girlfriend.

The victim, whose identity remains protected, recounted the terrifying incident that left him with severe facial burns, allegedly caused by a hired tricycle (pragya) rider.

In an interview with GHPage TV, the victim recalled the moment of the attack, saying, “The attack occurred in the morning amidst a crowd. I was standing near some food vendors when suddenly, someone who seemed to be passing by poured something on my face. I felt an intense burning sensation and cried out for help. Thankfully, a bystander rushed me to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).”

In a shocking revelation, the victim implicated his girlfriend, Abigail, suggesting her involvement in the attack. He explained, “At the time, I couldn’t identify the attacker. But later, I mentioned my girlfriend’s name [Abigail] and questioned if I had offended her in any way. She was the only one I had conflicts with, especially as I was about to return to Canada. Moreover, she was aware of my whereabouts.”

Eyewitnesses supported the victim’s claim, identifying the attacker as a pragya rider who had tampered with his tricycle’s license plate to avoid detection. Recounting the incident, the victim shared, “Eyewitnesses revealed that the attacker, a man riding a tricycle, had parked near my residence the night before. They saw him retrieve something from the tricycle’s bucket before pouring it on me. After the attack, they seized the tricycle and reported the incident to the police.”

Police investigation uncovered the perpetrator’s attempt to disguise his identity by falsely reporting his tricycle as stolen. “The tricycle’s license plate was altered, covered with black tape to hide the original number. The police detained anyone claiming ownership of the tricycle. Eventually, the suspect appeared at the station, claiming his tricycle was stolen. However, further interrogation revealed his involvement in the attack,” added the victim.

The suspect’s attempt to mislead authorities backfired when he reported his allegedly stolen tricycle, leading to his apprehension after questioning.
