A court in the Russian Far North is set to hear a case filed by the mother of the late opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, who has been denied access to his body, as reported by his allies on Wednesday.

Lyudmila Navalnaya, who traveled to the remote IK-3 prison where her son passed away, has been prevented from seeing his body since her arrival on Saturday. On Tuesday, she appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin for the release of Navalny’s body.

According to the TASS news agency, a complaint on “illegal acts” has been submitted to the court, and the hearing is scheduled to take place behind closed doors. Navalny’s team shared on social media that the court in the Arctic city of Salekhard would address the case on March 4, more than two weeks after Navalny’s death.

Breaking her silence on her son’s demise, Lyudmila Navalnaya addressed Putin in a video, urging him to allow her to see her son’s body. She emphasized, “I appeal to you, Vladimir Putin. The solution to the issue depends only on you. Let me finally see my son. I demand that Alexei’s body be released immediately so that I can bury him in a humane way.”

Yulia Navalnaya, Navalny’s widow, echoed the plea, calling on authorities to permit a dignified burial.

As of now, Putin has not provided any comments or responses, maintaining silence on the death of his prominent political opponent in prison.
