In response to the backlash against Meghan Markle following the premiere of “Harry & Meghan,” Maren Morris has commented.
Regarding responses to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix docuseries, the country music star, 32, said, “This genuine anger and annoyance towards Meghan Markle specifically — largely coming from women, I have to admit — it’s baffling to me.”
People are arguing that a woman shouldn’t remove a man from his family, and that is all this involves, she added. Have you seen his family, um, please?
The abdication of King Edward VIII in 1936 was one of the historical royal incidents Morris referenced after stating she would watch the show on a flight.
The “Bones” singer claimed to followers that Queen Elizabeth I’s uncle split from the family because they forbade him from wedding wife Wallis Simpson because she had previously been divorced.
Morris also brought up Princess Margaret, the late Queen’s sister, adding, “[She] did not quit the family, but I kind of wish she had,” when the British monarch forbade her from wedding Peter Townsend, a divorcee.
The singer felt that Princess Margaret’s narrative was among the saddest, except that of the late Princess Diana. And when you talk about Princess Di, she left the family but didn’t abandon her kids.
Morris continued to describe how perplexed she was by the criticism leveled against Markle, who she acknowledged to have a “moderate curiosity with the monarchy and the royals.”
She remarked, “I can just speak as an American who is captivated by these things, but people have been displeased with royals or a certain member of the royal family for generations.
Therefore, we are only seeing this era in which everything is so in the public eye and where Netflix documentaries are widely available. Everything feels extremely directed towards one particular woman, as it has historically. So, I’m not sure. What do you think, guys?
This week saw the release of the first three episodes of Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix series, which focused on the beginning of their romance.
The couple, who are parents to 3-year-old Archie and 1-year-old Lilibet, admitted that their highly-publicized relationship actually started on Instagram.
Harry remembered, “I was scrolling through my page and a friend of mine had this video of the two of them, like a Snapchat.”
The royal claimed he was interested in learning more about the person who created the Snapchat filter after seeing a photo of Markle with a dog filter on her face.
He recalled, “I was thinking, ‘Who is that?'”
The Californian then inquired, “Who’s that?” when a friend informed her that “Prince Haz” was interested in meeting her.
