Prince Harry, dedicated to preserving his late mother’s memory, continues to honor Princess Diana by sharing pieces of her cherished jewelry with his wife, Meghan Markle.

During their recent trip to Nigeria, Meghan adorned a delicate diamond cross pendant on a gold chain—a necklace once worn by Princess Diana. People magazine reported that Harry gifted this necklace to Meghan as a recent gesture.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, currently engaged in charitable endeavors and promoting the Invictus Games, spent time abroad without their children. Harry notably participated in a volleyball match against wounded veterans, despite facing defeat.

Meghan’s connection to her late mother-in-law goes beyond special occasions. Two diamonds from Diana’s collection are incorporated into Meghan’s tri-stone engagement ring, a thoughtful touch by Harry during his 2017 proposal.

Since marrying Harry, Meghan has frequently worn Diana’s jewelry. At their wedding reception, she wore an aquamarine cocktail ring previously owned by Diana, visible as the couple waved to onlookers from their car. Meghan has also been seen wearing a Cartier watch favored by Diana, often incorporating subtle nods to her late mother-in-law’s style.

The birth of their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, further highlights the couple’s dedication to family and legacy. Lili, born in Santa Barbara, California, is eighth in line to the British throne, honoring both Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and his late mother, Princess Diana, with her name.

During a Women in Leadership Nigeria panel, Meghan made a striking sartorial statement in a bright red midi dress designed by rising Nigerian designer Orire, departing from her usual minimalist neutrals. In conversation with media executive Mo Abudu and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director-general of the World Trade Organisation, Meghan explained her choice, citing the vibrant hues of Nigerian fashion that inspired her.

Meghan’s red dress reflects her thoughtful approach to fashion and her newfound connection to Nigeria, following her discovery, through a genealogy test, that she is 43 percent Nigerian. Orire, the brand behind the striking red midi, is a women-led label based in Lagos, which gained significant attention after Meghan’s endorsement.
