Reality TV star Mercy Eke has revealed that she’s ready to embrace motherhood on her own if marriage doesn’t happen soon.
The first female winner of Big Brother Naija shared in a recent interview that she feels both mentally and financially prepared to raise a child as a single mother.
At 33, Mercy explained that she wouldn’t hesitate to have a child even without being married, emphasizing that societal judgments about single motherhood often don’t apply to women who are financially independent.
“I’ve worked hard, and I know I can take care of myself and even three kids comfortably,” she said. “The stigma around having children without a father usually targets those who are struggling financially, not women who are self-sufficient.”
Mercy also noted that marriage isn’t her immediate focus, as she hasn’t yet met someone who meets her expectations. She added, “I’ve not met the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. But if I get pregnant now, I’m ready to have my baby and embrace motherhood.”
