Lionel Messi once revealed he would love to play on the same team as Cristiano Ronaldo someday.

Messi, aged 36, secured his 8th Ballon d’Or at a vibrant awards ceremony in Paris on October 30.

This marked Messi’s 8th win, putting him 3 ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who boasts 5 Golden Balls. Despite their enduring rivalry spanning nearly 15 years, fans have often pondered what it would be like to witness the two greatest footballers as teammates.

Interestingly, Messi himself has entertained the same idea, expressing a desire to play alongside Ronaldo. Addressing the topic in 2015, as reported by Mirror Sport, Messi stated, “Yes, of course, I always like to play with the best, and Ronaldo is one of them. I think it will be difficult for us to play in the same team, but obviously I would like to. I was lucky enough to play and participate with many very good players, and, obviously, I would also like to do it with him.”

Given their current career trajectories, the likelihood of them joining forces on the same team seems slim. Messi is presently showcasing his skills with Inter Miami in the MLS, while Ronaldo has taken the stage with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
