Instead of uploading a photo of presidential election results at the ward level to Nigeria’s electoral commission website, the BBC has confirmed that mugshots of people appear to have been mistakenly posted on several occasions.

The BBC’s team tracking poll misinformation investigated two cases raised on social media.

In one widely circulated video, someone navigates the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (Inec) portal to review results from Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti state in southwest Nigeria.

A photo of the presidential election results from that ward, along with the signatures of party agents, should be displayed. Instead, a picture of a woman appears on the screen.

The BBC went through the same procedure, and the problem has yet to be resolved.
It is unclear how widespread such errors are, but the revelation will add to the pressure on Inec, which opposition parties accuse of rigging the election.

Inec has blamed any delays on technical issues.
