More bodies are being recovered by rescue workers in Malawi following the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Freddy, which killed 326 people.

Soldiers have joined rescue efforts, rummaging through debris in search of victims swept away by mudslides and floods.

Rhoda Odhiambo witnessed troops removing a body from the mud in the Kalika area, near Blantyre.

Following record rains, large rocks carried by floods from hillsides collapsed on homes and businesses. Many makeshift homes were also unable to withstand the floodwaters.

Many victims, particularly children, are believed to be still buried in the mud.

For the victims of the tragedy, temporary shelters have been established. 4,000 victims are being cared for at Blantyre’s Manja primary school, where they are also receiving medical attention.
