In response to South Africa’s electricity supply shortage and frequent power outages, Mozambique has offered to provide 100MW of electricity to its neighboring country. The announcement was made in Pretoria, the capital of South Africa, on Monday, following a request made by the South African government last month.

Carlos Zacarias, Mozambique’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, stated that a commercial agreement outlining the price and logistics of the energy transfer to South Africa is expected to be finalized soon. Kgosientsho Ramokgoba, South Africa’s Minister of Electricity, expressed satisfaction with the prompt response from the Mozambican government and mentioned that technicians are working to ensure the feasibility of the operations.

Furthermore, Minister Zacarias disclosed that Mozambique intends to provide an additional 600MW of energy within the next six months, further addressing South Africa’s energy needs.
