Mr Eazi has shared an honest reason behind something fans didn’t expect—why he intentionally avoids listening to Burna Boy’s music.

Speaking on the Afropolitan Podcast, the singer explained that his choice has nothing to do with any personal issue. In fact, he made it clear that he respects Burna Boy’s talent and artistry. The decision, he said, is simply about protecting his own creative direction.

According to him, both artists share a similar deep vocal tone, and he worries that constantly listening to Burna Boy could subtly influence the way he records and delivers his own songs. Over time, he believes it could blur the uniqueness of his sound without him even realising it.

For Mr Eazi, originality is everything. He noted that his focus is on maintaining the distinct style that his listeners recognise, and limiting exposure to similar voices helps him stay true to that.

He summed it up simply, saying he doesn’t want his sound to drift away from what defines him.

Interestingly, the two artists have worked together before on Miss You Bad, a track from Mr Eazi’s 2018 project Life Is Eazi, Vol. 2 – Lagos to London, showing that their creative paths have crossed despite his personal listening preference.

It’s a rare glimpse into how some artists consciously manage inspiration, influence, and individuality in a highly connected music space.
