2Baba Breaks Silence on Benue Killings: “This Is No Longer Normal”
Legendary Nigerian artist 2Baba, real name Innocent Idibia, has voiced deep pain and frustration over the ongoing violence plaguing his home state of Benue.
The heartbreak comes after yet another brutal attack on the Yelewata community, where dozens of lives were lost. The armed assailants, believed to be herdsmen from Nasarawa, struck late Friday night, sweeping in from two directions and causing chaos well into Saturday morning. Locals — including displaced persons taking shelter in market stalls — were caught completely off guard. Even the youths and police who tried to defend the community were overwhelmed.
While Yelewata was under siege, another attack reportedly unfolded in Daudu, still within Guma Local Government Area — compounding an already devastating situation.
Taking to Instagram, 2Baba didn’t hold back. “My heart is heavy. I’m angry. I’m heartbroken,” he wrote. “What’s happening in Benue isn’t just a state issue — it’s a national emergency. We’ve gone past condemning. We need real action.”
He questioned how such violence has been allowed to continue with little consequence. “Every time this happens, we say the same things — we call on leaders, we express outrage. But people keep dying. It’s becoming ridiculous. This can’t be our normal.”
For 2Baba, this is personal — not just because Benue is home, but because the silence and inaction speak volumes. His message is clear: the time for words has passed. What’s needed now is bold, unified, and sustained action.
