Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has alleged that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo requested the resignation of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng several months ago. Kpebu claims this request stemmed from a petition by former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, who called for Agyebeng’s removal.

Kpebu revealed that sources within the Office of the President informed him of this development. Despite the president’s request, Agyebeng reportedly refused to step down. “Martin Amidu has given President Akufo-Addo an opportunity to remove Kissi Agyebeng,” Kpebu said. “My sources at the presidency told me that President Akufo-Addo asked Kissi to resign, but Kissi refused.”

Kpebu added that the president is keen on removing Agyebeng due to concerns that the Special Prosecutor might investigate him.

Earlier, Martin Kpebu criticized Martin Amidu’s petition for Agyebeng’s removal. The petition alleges procurement breaches in the purchase of vehicles for the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), abuses related to judges and the administration of justice, and other improprieties forming the basis for Agyebeng’s impeachment.

The allegations include violations of citizens’ rights through unlawful arrests and detentions, breaches of the right to information, and improper personnel appointments within the OSP. Following the petition, the Chief Justice is currently determining whether a prima facie case exists to establish a committee for Agyebeng’s impeachment, as per Article 146 of the Constitution.

Amidu’s petition specifically mentions the arrests of Cecilia Dapaah and Prof. Frimpong Boateng as examples of Agyebeng allegedly abusing their rights. He also accused Agyebeng of violating the right to information by requesting appointment letters and salary details of all OSP staff on a pen drive. Additionally, Amidu raised concerns about the improper appointment of personnel to the office.
