The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Maikyau, addressed the recent controversy surrounding Vera Anyim’s testimony at Dunamis Church in Abuja, where she claimed to have graduated from the National Open University with a B.Sc degree in Law, making her the only graduate in her family.

During her testimony, Vera stated that she had earned a “BSc in Law” from NOUN. Pastor Enenche, questioning her, accused her of dishonesty, which stirred national debate and diverse opinions among Nigerians.

Apologizing, Enenche clarified that his reaction stemmed from the church’s stance against dishonesty and mediocrity.

In response, at a press conference, the NBA President noted that no Nigerian university offers a B.Sc in Law, criticizing Vera for claiming a nonexistent title.

He commented on the language used in her testimony, stating that it reflected legal jargon but emphasized that her assertion of holding a B.Sc in Law was false.

Maikyau highlighted that legal degrees are not designated as B.Sc, and Vera’s misrepresentation warranted scrutiny and correction.

He concluded that such misrepresentation detracts from the integrity of the legal profession, emphasizing the accurate depiction of legal qualifications.
