In January 2022, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra welcomed their first child, a daughter named Malti. This year marked her first birthday, and Jonas revealed in a recent interview with The Kelly Clarkson Show that they threw a huge party to commemorate the occasion.
“We needed to celebrate. “She had a pretty wild journey in her early life, so we had to celebrate in style,” he said. “She’s the first. She’s stunning. It’s incredible. The very best.”
Malti was born via surrogate and experienced birth complications that kept her in the NICU for more than three months. The couple didn’t tell anyone until she was safely home, after which they both posted about how difficult the ordeal had been.
“Our little girl is finally home after 100 plus days in the NICU,” Jonas wrote on Instagram at the time. “Every family’s journey is unique and requires a certain level of faith, and while ours was a challenging few months, what becomes abundantly clear, in retrospect, is how precious and perfect every moment is. We are overjoyed that our little girl is finally home, and we want to express our gratitude to every doctor, nurse, and a specialist at Rady Children’s La Jolla and Cedar Sinai in Los Angeles, who were there for us every step of the way. Our next chapter has begun, and our baby is a true badass. Let’s do it, M! “Your parents adore you.”
Jonas told People in June that he and Chopra decided to share their story because there isn’t enough discussion about how different each parent’s birthing experience is.
“I think that what we shared on social media was just kinda the feeling that we had, the gratitude obviously to have our baby home. But also for everyone who was a part of her journey while she was in the hospital,” he said. “It’s eye-opening in many ways. And I believe it was critical for us to simply share that. And make sure that people understand that they are not alone in their journey, whether it is something like what we went through, diabetes, or whatever challenges may arise. [I’m] grateful to have Pri as a teammate who has been and continues to be a rock.”
