Nicki Minaj arrived in Trinidad and Tobago for the 2023 Carnival, which had been canceled for the previous two years due to the pandemic. On Tuesday, thousands of carnival-goers lined the streets to greet the rap queen with a royal welcome.
She made her first public appearance since 2020, wearing a stunning purple bodysuit with feathery pink and purple wings and parading through Port of Spain while waving the Trinidad and Tobago flag.
At one point, she even took the stage and performed her newly released remix to Machel Montano and Destra’s “Shake the Place,” to which the audience sang along.
“Trinidad, my country, the greatest carnival ever,” Nicki raps on the track. “I’m representing that red, white, and black / I’m representing my true flag.”
Nicki’s appearance was lauded by the Trinidad & Tobago Guardian as “a gift…that gives our Carnival a major boost.” “This is the type of marketing that a small country cannot afford and for which we must be grateful,” the newspaper stated.
Nicki appears to be preparing for a social media comeback after taking a break. As fans wait for her new album, she has announced that Queen Radio will return to the airwaves on March 3 at 3 p.m. PST.
“This is the fifth album. “I’m not going to say when it’ll be released, but the album will be released soon,” she told i-D magazine in November.
