The Republic of Niger recently announced flight restrictions to and from Nigeria due to safety concerns. According to a circular issued by authorities, all national and international commercial flights are permitted in Niger’s airspace except those originating from or destined to Nigeria.
However, these restrictions do not affect commercial flights passing through Nigerian airspace without landing. All flights within Niger’s airspace must keep their ADS-B and/or RADAR transponders activated as a mandatory safety measure.
Furthermore, the circular underscores that Niger’s airspace remains closed for all military, operational, and special flights unless prior authorization is obtained from competent authorities.
It’s important to understand that these restrictions only apply to flights between Niger and Nigeria and do not invalidate any existing NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen) currently in effect.
