Following a noise pollution complaint from neighbors, a Nigerian court has given the owner of a noisy rooster until Friday to slaughter it, according to local media.

According to the Premium Times news website, a court in the northern city of Kano declared the cockerel a nuisance to the neighborhood for its constant crowing, which two neighbors claimed deprived them of sleep.

One of the neighbors, Yusuf Muhammed told the court that the rooster’s crowing violated his right to sleep.

Isyaku Shu’aibu told the court that he purchased the bird for Good Friday celebrations and requested that it be held until the Christian holy day before being slaughtered for a family feast.

According to the Daily Trust news website, Magistrate Halima Wali granted the request on Tuesday but warned him to keep the cockerel from roaming the area and disturbing residents.

The owner was told to slaughter the bird on Friday or face a fine.
