Nollywood has lost another notable figure as filmmaker Shina Sanyaolu has passed away. Known for his contributions to the Yoruba genre of Nollywood, Sanyaolu left an indelible mark on the film industry as a producer and director.

Details surrounding his death are still unclear at the moment, but the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan, confirmed the sad news. He shared the announcement on Instagram, writing, “Sleep well uncle Shina Sanyaolu.”

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko also paid tribute, reflecting on the profound impact Sanyaolu had on the lives of many. Kosoko described him as more than just a talented filmmaker, highlighting his kindness and unwavering support for the arts. He fondly recalled how Sanyaolu opened his heart and home to fellow Nollywood actors traveling to the UK in the 1980s, making them feel welcome.

“Shina’s generosity knew no bounds,” Kosoko wrote. “He was a rare gem whose spirit touched countless lives. While the world feels emptier without him, his legacy continues in the hearts he has touched.”

Sanyaolu was involved in notable productions such as The Honourable, Two Wives, and Omo Olosan, cementing his place as a respected figure in Nollywood.
