Oba Ewuare II of Benin honored Afrobeats sensation Rema with a royal plaque on Thursday. The presentation took place at the Oba’s palace in Benin City, just ahead of Rema’s highly anticipated homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium.

Earlier this week, Rema joined Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki for the groundbreaking of the new Edo Arena. The governor announced that the 6,000-capacity venue will be named “Rema Dome” in recognition of the artist.

Obaseki praised Rema as a prominent ambassador for both Benin and Edo State, highlighting that the Rema Dome will draw visitors and international stars to Benin, boosting the state’s tourism and providing new job opportunities.

On his X account, Obaseki shared, “It was an honor to have our global music icon @heisrema with me for the groundbreaking of the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena, now called ‘Rema’s Dome.’ Located on the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road, this venue will offer visitors a taste of our rich culture and contribute to local employment.”

Rema, born Divine Ikubor, continues to celebrate and promote the heritage of his hometown, Benin City, through his music and performances.
