Former Nigerian President Appeals to Biden to Remove Cuba from Terrorism List
Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria, has urged U.S. President Joe Biden to remove Cuba from the list of countries deemed to sponsor terrorism. In his letter dated September 3, Obasanjo highlighted the significant role Cuba played in supporting the fight against colonialism and apartheid in Africa.
Obasanjo’s letter, reported by Arise TV, emphasizes the historical contributions of Cuba and appeals to President Biden to reconsider its designation as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The letter states:
“Dear Mr. President,
As a former President of Nigeria dedicated to peace and justice, I write to you regarding an important matter. It has come to my attention that Cuba is currently listed by the United States as a country supporting terrorism.
Given my extensive interactions with Cuba, especially during and after Fidel Castro’s era, I urge you to review this designation. Cuba has made significant contributions towards ending colonialism and apartheid in Africa, and its historical efforts should be recognized.
I appeal to you to approach this issue with empathy for the millions of Cubans affected by this designation.
