Edo State’s newly inaugurated Governor, Sunday Okpebholo, has taken decisive steps by dissolving the executive leadership of all boards in the state.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary announced that Okpebholo also terminated the roles of all political appointees and removed permanent secretaries hired from outside the state’s public service.
The release stated, “Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has directed the immediate dissolution of executive boards, agencies, and parastatals within the Edo State Public Service. Additionally, all political appointees and permanent secretaries brought in from outside the state’s public service have been relieved of their roles.”
Affected individuals are instructed to return any government property to the senior-most public officer in their respective departments.
During his swearing-in, Governor Okpebholo also announced an indefinite halt on all revenue collections in the state, particularly in motor parks. He instructed the state police to enforce this order and arrest any violators, emphasizing that a review of the revenue process is underway.
The statement underscored, “Revenue collection within Edo State is now suspended indefinitely. Anyone collecting state revenues will be arrested by the Commissioner of Police.”
Governor Okpebholo’s inauguration took place at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Tuesday, as he succeeded former Governor Godwin Obaseki. His oath of office was taken alongside his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, marking a new chapter in Edo’s governance. The event, attended by enthusiastic supporters, included a ceremonial tour of the stadium where Okpebholo greeted the crowd.
