The state prosecutor in Gabon has announced that Noureddin Bongo Valentin, the eldest son of the deposed president Ali Bongo, along with several political associates, is facing charges of high treason and corruption.

Noureddin Bongo Valentin, aged 31, was apprehended shortly following last month’s coup. National television aired footage depicting him and some of his father’s close associates alongside suitcases of money purportedly confiscated from their residences.

As of now, there has been no official response or comment from the accused parties regarding these allegations.

The military took control of the government soon after Ali Bongo’s victory in Gabon’s presidential election was declared. He had been in power since 2009, succeeding his father, who had governed the nation for a remarkable 41 years.
